Teeth Whitening

Tooth whitening is a successful and simple method of lightening the colour of your teeth. Teeth yellow with age but drinking tea, coffee and colas all speed up this process. Smoking and other staining agents will also contribute to darkening of the teeth. The whitening technique removes the staining agent that has penetrated deep within the tooth. The degree of whiteness achieved will vary from patient to patient and with the type of whitening process chosen. We can advise upon the suitability of treatment based upon your tooth and gum condition.

Home Whitening
Home whitening involves the use of custom made trays over a period of time at home. This technique involves taking impressions (moulds) of your teeth. These impressions are sent to a laboratory where a technician fabricates custom made trays designed to fit closely to your teeth. This customisation allows for maximum contact between the whitening gel and your teeth. This system also minimises the gel's contact with gum tissue and reduces any gum irritation. A whitening gel is syringed into the trays and these are seated over your teeth for anything from an hour to overnight. These trays can be kept and used for future whitening, so further impression taking and tray fabrication is not required. Successful whitening can normally be achieved after two/three weeks, however, this may vary with certain types of discolouration.

In surgery whitening using wy10™ 'Power' Whitening
This one hour chair-side treatment leaves teeth up to 10 shades whiter. The gums and sensitive areas of the teeth are protected. Your teeth are in turn assessed to establish whether they are porous or dense and then the most advanced wy10 Power gel is applied to the enamel and activated using the Wy10 Power Lamp for 10 minutes. The process is then repeated two to four times depending on the individual characteristics of your teeth.

The whole process takes about an hour depending on the texture of your teeth. People with porous teeth will require less treatment time (typically 30 minutes). People with dense teeth will require more.

This also eliminates the need for temporary restorations, and in most cases, impressions.

Natural Coloured Fillings
Metal fillings can now be replaced by natural tooth coloured fillings to improve the look of your smile.

Crowns & Bridges
We can cover unsightly teeth using crowns. Spaces between teeth can be filled using bridge work either attached to crowns or by using the latest in adhesive dentistry.

Veneers
Provide a wafer thin mask to hide discolouration on teeth and close unsightly gaps with little or no work needed on the tooth itself. Veneers are often shown on makeover programmes because they can completely transform your smile.

Lumineers®
LUMINEERS® BY CERINATE® are porcelain veneers which offer a way to a permanently whiter and perfectly aligned smile for those people who don’t wish to alter the underlying tooth. Lumineers can be applied to teeth without any grinding or shaving. Lumineers can even be placed over existing crown or bridgework without having to replace them. Lumineers are as thin as contact-lens and offer a permanent cosmetic solution for stained, chipped, discoloured or misaligned teeth.

Implants
Titanium implants are used to fill gaps caused by missing teeth. By replacing the root of the missing tooth with an implant, it is then possible to attach a crown or bridge to this. Implants feel and function just like your own teeth and are the permanent answer to tooth loss.
